Portfolio Manager Investment Technology – Full Time Position

Toward this objective we are looking for a Portfolio Manager Investment Technology for a full time position with our customer in Sacramento with details as follows:

I Position Description

1. Greenleaf Systems’ Customer is a major investment house handling investment funds in excess of $ 200 Bn. Investment Technology is a strategic aspect of operation for this organization.

2. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer for Investments and includes the management of all the day-to-day activity of Technology Management. This includes overall management and operational responsibility for planning, organizing, and direction all functions associated with the Investment Technology function.

3. The position requires the creation, management and enhancement of a partnership with the organization’s IT department. This is because the IT department is the one that will provide infrastructure support for the investment technology applications.

4. The person we are looking for may come from the technology or finance domain but over time has been schooled by experience, refresher courses, workshops and other methods in the other discipline.

The specific job responsibilities are as follows

Primary Job function -60-70% of the time

1. The position will assess, design, and combine leading information management and operational processes, approaches, technologies, and controls to enable sustained business value and risk management in support of INVO’s Roadmap. The position will present to the Investment Committee, Investment Strategy Group, Operating Committee and other entities as may be needed by operational necessity or mandated by compliance.

2. The position will implement organizational and governance models to implement Quality Assurance methodologies, knowledge management process, tools and procedures, security measures and appropriate investment technology security policies. Provide recommendations to the Investment Office Executive Team in establishing overall investment technology strategy to create and apply solutions that drive productivity and enable all of the Investment Office to meet its strategic goals and make significant contributions to the overall investment policy decision-making.

3. Provide critical policy recommendations and advice to the Investment Office and IT senior management on technology issues impacting the delivery of investment products/services and operational effectiveness. The position also provides consultation and advice to the Investment Office Executive Staff, represents the organization at various Technology, Public and government forums including National Investment Technology and Business Organizations (private and public).

4. Provide the Investment Office business areas with technology insight related to current and future IT capabilities. Oversee the facilitation of discussion on industry technology innovations/trends which can potentially have a substantive impact on INVO business operations.

5. The position, through subordinate staff, will assess, design and combine leading information management and operational processes, approaches, technologies and controls to enable sustained business value and support of the Investment Office. The position will coordinate multiple major initiatives of the technology function, plan and schedule resources, control large-scale diverse work efforts and work force.

Secondary Job Function - 15-25% of the time

1. Prepare a strategic investment technology plan for the Investment Office Executive Team, as well as analyze and review the strategic plans and annual program investment plans, and conduct and/or manage any specific high-level special tasks, research, or analyses.

2. Standardize technology applications to leverage infrastructure, languages, tools, and common services across program areas, as well as enterprise IT services; build a data management team to consolidate Data management within the Investment Office.

3. The position will ensure that the Technology Unit operates in a complementary and efficient manner in supporting the Investment Office’s overall objectives; maintaining a positive team management approach; undertaking any other requested activities necessary to enhance returns, mitigate risks, and improve efficiency.

Tertiary Job Function - 10-20% of the time

1. This position oversees all operational activities of the Technology Unit staff, including recruitment, selection and development of staff.

2. Maintains appropriate contacts with professional peers in the investment communities as a source of valuable investment technology information and practices; responsible for staying current on investment concepts, market activities, and technology solutions in order to recommend innovative investment strategies using new technology systems to improve returns, efficiencies, and better manage risk.

II Position Requirements

Position Requirements – Academic

1. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Finance with schooling in Investment Technology primarily by way of experience and secondarily by way of having attended workshops, seminars and professional learning programs.

2. Formal schooling in Technology Management including running a CIO’s office.

3. Evidence of having continually attended refresher courses and workshops for skills enhancement.

Position Requirements – Technical Experience

1. Extensive experience managing investment technologies including trading, financial instruments, hedging, risk management, portfolio management, derivatives and Options & futures.

2. Knowledge of the Capital Markets in the United States with some exposure to financial engineering.

3. Deep understanding of trading and the nuances of today’s markets and know how on collaborating to solve each one’s unique challenges and tailoring solutions to meet specific needs.

4. Expert level understanding of relational database concepts, dimensional database concepts and database architecture and design.

5. Knowledge and Experience in running a technology office, in managing enterprise architecture, implementing technology upgrade programs, managing application life cycles and performing context-aware trend analysis.

Position Requirements – Process Knowledge

1. Experience with full Software Development Lifecycle methodologies, experience with Agile a Plus

2. Effective communicator: able to work with executives, engineers, managers, web/API/database 6. developers, QA testers, internal customers and external partners.

3. Strong written communication skills including design documentation, proof of concept and prototype analysis and documentation. Should be able to provide guidance to people creating technical and presentation documents

Position Requirements – Soft Skills

1. Must be highly motivated, a quick learner, to work independently and drive solutions based on policy guidance.
2. Flexible: capable of juggling multiple priorities and willing to do what it takes to meet critical deadlines.
3. Demonstrated ability to be tacit and yet be firm and demanding to meet organizational objectives

Position Requirements – Leadership

1. Experienced in managing teams of 10 or more direct reports and setting goals and objectives in a manner designed to achieve organizational effectiveness.
2. Experience in managing IT as a business incorporating best practices, bringing in efficiencies and advocating fiscal discipline
3. Knowledge of team dynamics, motivation and inclusion process.

III Interview and selection process

1. A 45-60 minutes conversation with a Greenleaf Specialist
2. Response to a written questionnaire
3. An initial shortlist will be created based on the above two steps
4. Followed by an in person interview or a video conference interview with a Greenleaf Team to present professional successes. No travel is required by the candidate at this stage.
5. A final shortlist will be created based on the above and submitted to our customer.
6. An in-person interview will be co-ordinated by us at the customer site.
7. The selected person will be informed via phone and email.
8. We expect the selection process to take 8-12 weeks.
