We are seeking a seasoned, energized VP of Engineering to build, manage, and mentor our world-class team of software engineers. Is there someone out there who is a collaborative and inspiring technologist? Do you have deep experience in hands-on leadership of software development? Have you worked with digital media distribution, high availability online services, and the creation of social networking tools? Yes? Then you might be the successful candidate hired to inspire our technology teams to create innovative products on time and under budget!
Responsibilities
• Attract, retain, manage and mentor our software development teams
• Be a process guru – help create rigorous standards and methodologies
• Fully leverage our development resources and technology talent. Smartly and nimbly deploy and coordinate teams to maximize productivity and to realize ambitious product road map and strategic goals.
• Possess the technical knowledge and the management acumen to quickly scale engineering efforts
• Serve as a sounding board and a ‘point of realism’ about the creation of products and services
• Facilitate communication and collaboration between engineering and management, operations and product groups
• Establish a high metabolism, communicative, collaborative, and high performance engineering culture
Requirements
• 10+ years hands on software engineering experience with 5+ years managing mid-sized, fast-paced and dynamic engineering teams.
• Very high current technical competence, track record of strong coding and individual technical accomplishments.
• Solid experience in an early stage internet company with a strong preference for having developed and delivered desktop software applications and strong web development skills.
• Expertise in content management/ingest, streaming ops, and billing
• History of successful management of multiple, concurrent development teams within a unified product vision.
• Well-versed with recent online technology innovation, with a clear vision for future trends and their impact on our business.
• Strong believer in open source software and its applicability to commercial product development.
• Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment.
• Strong project-management skills. Proven track record for product delivery. Able to fit in well within an informal startup environment and to provide hands-on management.
• Able to establish leadership and credibility with experienced engineers quickly.
• Strong knowledge of Java, Javascript, HTML, and PHP with experience in agile development environments. Knowledge of Ruby, SQL, Python a plus.
• Experience with agile development methodologies a plus.
• Advanced MS or CS degree preferred with commensurate work experience
